Water safety

Last week all the year 7-9s went on 3 days out and sometimes we went with other kahuis and sometimes we went with just our kahui.

On Friday we went to Jellie Park with just our kahui and it was probably the best to spend on the last day of the trip so we could relax and swim at the same time after all the activities we did last week.

We had to make a poster on water safety so here's the one I made:

Decisions about loans

In business studies we had to make a flowchart about different types of loans, and what's a good and bad decision about loans.

Diwali

In Wānanga we had to make a poster on Diwali and put information about it. I put a few questions and the answers on my one everyone would've done it different though.

Here is my poster I made:

Circuits

Voltage: Is the number of electrons in a circuit, it is measured with a voltmeter.

Current: Is the number of electrons passing a given point in 1 second.

Questions:

  • What would be the reading on the ammeter lambasted a? 5
  • What would be the reading on the other side? 5
  • Solve the unknown ammeters 1: A=4 , A=4 ,A=4
  • Solve the unknown ammeters 2: A=8, A=8

Child poverty

In Wānanga we had to make a poster all about child poverty and add some facts we learnt about it online or what we already knew. I knew a little but about it but not nearly as much stuff I know now.

This is my poster:

Budgeting for an event - Business studies

In business studies we had to plan a event with people and we are also looking at budgeting. I gave my self a budget of $50 out of my pocket money for everything we are going to need, to make it a fun time.

I thought to plan to just plan a hangout for the end of the school year for 4 people and the things we might need to do this are:

  • Snacks - (for everyone) $10
  • Water bottles - (for everyone) $5 for a 12 pack
  • A way to meet up with each other - (Probably walking, scooting or biking to wherever were meeting) $0
  • Someones house for everyone to hangout at - $0
  • Go to the pools since it's summer - $5 each (4 people)
We are planning on hanging out on the last day of school and meet up at someones house after we go home and get changed. Also we are going to the pools right after everyone is ready and we are all in a group.

Health discovery

In health we had to do this activity which was we could choose something we want to learn about it more and make a way we can show our learning. I chose to do anxiety because I know a few people who have it and I thought it would be good to know more.

We had to think of 5 questions around what we were learning about, here's mine:

  • Why is anxiety harmful?
  • What should I do if my friend is having a anxiety attack?
  • Who can/can't have anxiety?
  • How does it affect the brain when you have anxiety attacks?
  • When should you start thinking about if you have anxiety?
  • If you think you have anxiety how do you overcome the fear of telling people?
This is some of the planning we had to do before we started:

Then we made a way to shoe our learning, I made a kahoot so I can't show it on here but it's basically somewhat like those questions but also different and some have one answer and some have multiple answers.

This is similar to every question I've done in my kahoot.

The most challenging thing is I've been pretty sick and just catching up on everything but I think I did pretty good and still finished on time.

Heroes & Villains political poster

In hurumanu 6 we also had to make a flyer about our person we chose to do the timeline and facts poster about.

This is my flyer it's very simple and cool looking I think.

Heroes & Villains poster

In hurumanu 6 we had to make a poster representing 5 facts the timeline we did yesterday.

This is the poster I made:

Gymnastics

In gymnastics were doing gymnastics, and at the start I didn't really know what to expect because before I started playing football I did gymnastics on my trampoline but I was like 9 or 10.

The skills I've been trying to learn/re-learn are:

  • The splits
  • Being able to pull myself up on the bar
  • Also a cartwheel
I also started doing gymnastics at home again so I got more practice with these skills and more.
I was able to go all the way down on my splits like I used to which is kind of nice.
I'm still re-learning how to do a cartwheel on the floor.
I can't pull myself up on the bar because I weigh too, much right now and I'm trying to do better and I'm not that proud of it.

I know it's not the best but this is the only thing I barely felt comfortable posting.

100 word challenge

In class we had to do the 100 word challenge about a human footprint popping up on a car windscreen. i know it's a little crazy but it actually happened to my teacher.

After I dropped my sister off at her football game, something happened to my car while we were after the game. We just went straight into the car because when she scored the last goal of the game she also twisted her ankle a little while scoring. Anyways when we sat in the car we noticed this human footprint on the car windscreen, we were confused and scared. So I checked all around the car but I saw nothing so on the way home we were just confused at why this happened. The weird thing is this never happened again.

Heroes & villains life timeline

In Hurumanu 6 we made a timeline on a famous person in politics, either dead or alive today and put information about important stuff in their life/life so far.

I did Adolf Hitler and he has already died so these are a few key dates in his lifetime.

Types of leaders

In class we were learning about being a leader and different types of leaders. We had to research different types of leaders and what they mean. We also did a quiz saying what type of leader we are and how well of a leader we are. My highest score was being a supportive and helpful leader, but I'm also not the best leader because I'am not that confident around other people in general.

This is the DLO I made:

Budgeting

In business studies we are starting to learn about budgeting and what key words are surrounded with budgeting.

I made a crossword about some of the words that can be used to describe budgeting and a few clues to guess the word.

I think I did fine but we only started learning about this last week so I think if we did it for a longer amount of time it would be better.

Science - reflection and refraction

In science we had to add words we thought sounded right into a sentence about light.

When light hits a mirror, the angle at which it hits is the same as the angle at which it is reflection. Scientists called this the Law of Reflection. In correct science terms, the Reflection Law states that the angle of light is equal to the angle of incidence when measured from the same reflected.

When light travels through air and passes into a glass block it away and bands inwards, towards normal. When light travelling through a glass block exits that block and enters air, it slows down and bends outwards, speeding up the normal.

I think I did pretty good but maybe if I knew more about it personally this would've been kind of easier but it's fine.

The marketing mix - promotion

In business studies were doing some work around our school market day. Year 7-9 are making products to sell and on the day were going to sell them to the parents, teacher, parents and anyone else who wants to buy stuff.

My groups advertisement:

We are thinking mostly people that like jewellery would buy our products more than people who wouldn't really wear it. We re going to let this slide / poster on the market day slideshow advertising thing. Also on the actual day we made a different poster and put a lot of colours on it. Also our products were colourful on it's own. Our products advertising mostly was bases around the product part of the marketing mix and a little bit of price.

The marketing mix - place

In business studies were doing some work around our school market day. Year 7-9 are making products to sell and on the day were going to sell them to the parents, teacher, parents and anyone else who wants to buy stuff.

For market day were using this type of selling called direct channel, which is when the person/people who make products sell it to people who wants it. More than likely there will be more b&e groups making what were making so we probably might want to be somewhere a lot of people can see our table when they walk by.

I think we will be fine and a lot of people will buy our products if were in the right place where people can see us and make sure our table stands out.

The marketing mix - price

In business studies were doing some work around our school market day. Year 7-9 are making products to sell and on the day were going to sell them to the parents, teacher, parents and anyone else who wants to buy stuff.

My group is making bracelets, earrings and rings, how we decided on the prices was we all talked about it while we were making advertisements. We all came to an agreement that the bracelets should be $1 and then we decided that the earring should be a little more and the rings a little less. So we just took away 50c of the rings and added 50c for the earrings. If a lot of people just want rings that might be a little harder to make money than a lot of people wanting earrings.

I'm not sure what the other b&e groups that are making jewellery are selling them at but I think we will make a bit of money and our prices are pretty reasonable.

The marketing mix - products

In business studies were doing some work around our school market day. Year 7-9 are making products to sell and on the day were going to sell them to the parents, teacher, parents and anyone else who wants to buy stuff.

My group is making jewellery, specifically were making bracelets, earrings and rings. The gonna be all different pattern and sets, were making them all homemade from the stuff we have at home and the extra stuff were getting from school. We are planning on packaging them all in brown paper bags with little thank you cards in every bag.

We don't really think people who like more sport things not so much girly things won't buy our products just because they won't enjoy it. But either way I think it's going to be fun if we get a lot of people buying it or not much people.

Hurumanu 6 - Politics

A couple weeks ago we started hurumanu 6, which is basically New Zealand politics and stuff similar to that. A couple days ago we had to get in a group and make a new political party and share it with our whole block.

Our political name is United Voices, and out logo is Your Vote, Your Voice. Our political group is about equality which falls under a lot of things. The main things were doing is education, housing, equality in work pays, education and health. The people in my group are Sierra, Daisy, Paea, Bryce and I. Sierra is the leader but were really working together with everything.

Football

At school we were supposed to play actual games of football this term but since not enough people wanted to play outdoor this season we ended up not being able to make a team. But we did work around that and we were just doing games at lunch on Tuesdays. It started off only being only girls but by the end some guys were allowed to join and I personally like mixed gender team / games anyways.

Next term we will be able to play indoor against other schools and hopefully have enough for a full team like the start of the year.

Energy transformation experiment

Different types of energy's:
1. Kinetic
2. Electric
3. Sound
4. Light
5. Chemical
6. Potential
7. Gravitational
8. Nuclear

Chemical + Electrical = Phone, chargers, computers, battery
Light + Chemical = Torch
Kinetic + light = Anything moving with light.

Aim:
To make a marshmallow shooter that transforms energy.

Equipment:
Marshmallows, scissors, cups and a balloon.

Method
1. Cut the bottom of the cup.
2. Cut the bottom of the balloon.
3. Stretched the balloon onto the part of the cut where there hole is.
4. Put the marshmallow in the centre of the balloon.
5. Pull the balloon back and fire it.

\Conclusion:
The energy change goes from elastic potential to kinetic energy after the marshmallow was fired. Over all I think the activity was pretty fun and a good idea to do with your friends.

NZ government

We had to make a presentation about NZ government this is what I made.

Energy

Definition: Stored in different objects and the ability to move something.

Different kinds of energy:
  1. Light energy (which gives light like in microwaves and x-rays)
  2. Heat energy (this is found in all hot objects)
  3. Sound energy ( energy used for vibrating objects/hearing different stuff)
  4. Chemical potential energy ( this is stored in particles mostly in food)
  5. Electric energy (the energy found in wires, generators and lighting)
  6. Gravitational potential (energy stored in objects which will make a noise or dent in the ground)
  7. Kinetic energy (energy moving different when something moves like when cars move or you do something active)
  8. Elastic potential energy (energy stored in stretched rubber bands/strings)

No more plastic bags

In textiles we are researching why plastic bags are bad and trying to think of ideas instead of plastic bags. Here is what I found.

Why are there no more plastic bags? In NZ plastic bags were banned in July 2019 because there was so much waste not just in NZ all around the world. Most of it kept coming in the ocean and killing the animals after a while.

Plastic bags are made from polyethylene, the reason polyethylene is pretty bad is because it takes away a lot of natural gas to make it into a plastic bag.

Alternatives to plastic bags. Paper bags, cotton / reusable bags, reusable plastic bags.

Selling a product

In business studies we had to make a poster or something similar to sell a product. We got to choose between a few but I hose rubber band ball.
