Term 1 assesment - English

 In English this term we were learning about creative writing and techniques how to make ours better. We got a couple choices on how we wanted to do this assesmnet but I decided to write a fictional story with all the techniques I have learned this term

This is my story:

On this freezing winter day, the trees had snow on them, the roads were icy and I was shivering getting out of bed. School got called off today so my best friend Aria texted me and we both decided to bundle up and explore the ginormous white, silent abandoned forest. At first I was pretty hesitant because I had never gone to that specific forest in my lifetime. But I decided to go to make memories I will never get the chance to make any other time. Getting ready I started to get nervous, my stomach was moving in all different places. Since Aria was coming it soothed me enough and I got the courage to go.

I was wearing ombre thick socks, shiny black snow boots, a tie dye hoodie, a white jacket and thick pants that matched the hoodie. I was sweating like a pig inside but I knew I'd regret it if I didn't put the layers on. When Aria knocked on my door I got a shiver down my spine but I knew I'd cherish the memories I'd have with her after this trip. We talked for about 5 minutes then we left.

In the car we started to blast all our favourite songs having the time of our life. It was so much fun and that reminded me why it was the right idea to say yes even though that feeling in my stomach was still just sitting still. When we were a street away it started to feel more real but also I started to shake and bite my nails, all things I do when my anxiety plays up. But I overcame my fears, got out of the car and we saw the most beautiful thing. The snow was bright like the stars, all the tree leaves were filled with cold snow and the tips of the leaves had ice on them. We were stunned by what we saw.

About an hour of exploring and taking pictures goes by and we find what looks like to be an abandoned cave. It had barbed wire around most of the cave, it was dark, didn't smell the best and looked like it was falling apart on one side like when old clothes start to wear down. We both started to get really hesitant about going in because if anything happened there is no signal out here. We both wanted to explore it so bad but we knew the right thing to do.

So we went through the bright white, beautiful forest back to our car. After trekking back through there we started the trip back. Even though we were disappointed there was no signal, Aria always made the best of every situation. Her smile was just so contagious singing her heart out while I drove home. About 10 minutes away I called both our parents asking if I could spend the night at her house. We both had huge smiles when they said yes. We had to stop at my house to grab some clothes and snacks for the night.

 

I just threw some clothes, some snacks and my pillow in a bag and rushed back to the car where Aria was ecstatic. I could tell she really wanted me to stay over. When we got to her house we ran up to her room and blasted more of our favourite songs for fun. Later that night we thought about what would've happened if we chose to go in the cave. What if we weren't having a sleepover or what if no one knew where we were. No one will ever know.

Reflection - English

In English all the post I have done recently are all about narratives and how do you make a good narrative. We had to reflect on what we enjoyed, our favourite activity and how we work best. 

My favourite activity was making a character because I liked thinking of a fictional person and kind of bringing them to life. 

I think I did pretty good they weren't my favourite things to do but they were alright.

Personally I like to work in groups with people I know because I get kind of shy around people I am not comfortable with.

Making a character - English

 In English we had to read pages of this book on how to make a character and answer these questions to make our very own character with different personalities and opinions.

This is the character I made:

1. Name: Rosie

2. Age:15

3. Height: 5 foot

4. Eye colour:Blue

5. Physical appearance: Pretty small but she has some strength

6. Strange or unique physical attributes: Her feet are really tiny like way too small for her age.

7. Favourite clothing style/outfit: Anything trendy she like trying the new styles.

8. Where do they live? What is it like there? She lives in Australia and it gets pretty hot there, especially in summer.

9. Defining gestures/movements (i.e., curling their lip when they speak, always keeping

their eyes on the ground, etc.): When she is nervous she looks up&down, but when she is comfortable around the person she is a ball of energy ready to come out.

10. Things about their appearance they would most like to change: She doesn't like how she is so short she wants to be taller like all her friends and people in her class.

11. Speaking style (fast, talkative, monotone, etc.): A pretty normal pace but if she is scared or tired she talks faster but people can still understand her.

12. Pet peeves: She hates it when people chew with their mouth open.

13. Fondest memory: Probably when her friends surprised her for her birthdy and they all went to the beach for the day.

14. Hobbies/interests: She is very competitive in Netball but is still respectful about it, she likes to play football with her brother sometimes, she also likes to have lazy days and just chill with her family&friends

15. Special skills/abilities: She is insanely flexible, like she doesnt even need to stretch and she can go all the way down into the splits.

16. Insecurities: Her height and she thinks shes not helping her team.

18. Temperament (easygoing, easily angered, etc.): She can be easy going but she does have a pretty big temp[er so you might not want to get her mad.

19. Negative traits: She talk bad about herself, she doesn't think she is as good as other people when she is.

20. Things that upset them: Seeing her friends upset, finishing a series she loves and being injured so she cant participate.

21. Things that embarrass them: Having to stand up in front of the class, people singing happy birthday in a big group and just all the attention on her.

22. This character is highly opinionated about: Being a LGBT ally and supporting anyone who is apart of the community.

23. Any phobias? Mostly just bugs they just creep her out.

25. Family (describe): She has a 12 y old brother, she has a 18 y old sister and a cousin who is pretty much like a sister who is also 15

26. Deepest, darkest secret: That her cousin had a boyfriend.

27. Reason they kept this secret for so long: Because at the time she was like 11 and her parents thought she was too young to have a boyfriend.

28. Other people's opinions of this character (What do people like about this character?

What do they dislike about this character?): People like how caring she is, how respectful she is. But they dont like how she talks bad about herself when she gets something wrong or when she just blames herself for stuff out of her control.

Main characters - English

 In English we had to research and explain what these words mean and share them with all of you.

So the words were Antagonist and Protagonist.

• Antagonist: An antagonist is pretty much a person or group who disagrees with everything and has very different opinions than everyone else. The also known as the ¨bad guys¨ in shows and movies.
• Protagonist: A protagonist is like the main character in books, TV shows and movies. You mostly follow the protagonist the whole/most of the time and watch them grow throughout the book, TV show or movie.

Setting - English

In English we had to write and explain 5 different settings. It could be about anywhere we just needed to make sure the reader got the idea of where the story took place.

• This morning was a pretty chilly morning, I had to got up out of bed and had a steamy shower before school.
• On a bright and beautiful summers day my friends and I decided to go down to the beach.
• My friends and I got to this dusty, old house and we decided to go exploring.
• One Christmas eve my siblings and I were finishing writing out Christmas cards next to the fire.
• On this particular winters day I was shivering when I got out of bed, so I went to go get my warmest hoodie and sat by the heater to warm up.

Show don´t tell - English

In English we had to do this task on show don´t tell and this is my work and how I would explain it.

What do you think “show don’t tell” means? I think it means we have to explain what things means by what you see rather than just telling the audience.

How can we re-write these sentences to “show” and not “tell”?

The buildings were tall: Th building were high like birds in the sky.

Sarah was really upset: She was just in bed laying down looking at the roof thinking.

She was so happy to see him: She filled with excitement and starting jumping when she saw him.

The lake was beautiful: The lake was sparkling in the sun and it made me smile.

Sensory language

 In English we had to make write a paragraph using sensory language. Sensory language is like explaining your senses weather the story is real or fake. Here is my paragraph I came up with.

One summer day I could see the pool shimmering when felt the heat of the sun on my body when I went to go to the pool with my friends. The water was a little cold at first but you could get used to it. After a few hours of swimming and chilling with my friends we went to o get lunch, and it looked and tasted so good. After the whole day I felt so tired and went to launch onto my bed and just chill on my phone until I fell asleep.

 In English we had to make a slideshow of how language features work and how they are used. I only did 3 of the many features.
