Screen printing - Textiles

In textiles were learning different techniques to put a design on a piece of fabric. This time we learned screen printing. aWhich is a way to put paint on a piece of matireal.

How to do it?

  • You draw a design on thick nearly cardboard paper.\
  • Cut the design out with a box cutter not cutting exactly to the edge.
  • You always put a piece of news paper on the table your working on so you do not mess up the table.
  • On the news paper put the piece of fabric first, then your design then a screen.
  • On the screen you put paint, enough to cover the whole design/piece of fabric.
  • Then with a squigy you pull the paint down, while someone holds the screen.
Here is what mine looked like:

Term 1 assesment - English

In English this term we were learning about creative writing and techniques how to make ours better. We got a couple choices on how we wanted to do this assesmnet but I decided to write a fictional story with all the techniques I have learned this term

This is my story:

On this freezing winter day, the trees had snow on them, the roads were icy and I was shivering getting out of bed. School got called off today so my best friend Aria texted me and we both decided to bundle up and explore the ginormous white, silent abandoned forest. At first I was pretty hesitant because I had never gone to that specific forest in my lifetime. But I decided to go to make memories I will never get the chance to make any other time. Getting ready I started to get nervous, my stomach was moving in all different places. Since Aria was coming it soothed me enough and I got the courage to go.

I was wearing ombre thick socks, shiny black snow boots, a tie dye hoodie, a white jacket and thick pants that matched the hoodie. I was sweating like a pig inside but I knew I'd regret it if I didn't put the layers on. When Aria knocked on my door I got a shiver down my spine but I knew I'd cherish the memories I'd have with her after this trip. We talked for about 5 minutes then we left.

In the car we started to blast all our favourite songs having the time of our life. It was so much fun and that reminded me why it was the right idea to say yes even though that feeling in my stomach was still just sitting still. When we were a street away it started to feel more real but also I started to shake and bite my nails, all things I do when my anxiety plays up. But I overcame my fears, got out of the car and we saw the most beautiful thing. The snow was bright like the stars, all the tree leaves were filled with cold snow and the tips of the leaves had ice on them. We were stunned by what we saw.

About an hour of exploring and taking pictures goes by and we find what looks like to be an abandoned cave. It had barbed wire around most of the cave, it was dark, didn't smell the best and looked like it was falling apart on one side like when old clothes start to wear down. We both started to get really hesitant about going in because if anything happened there is no signal out here. We both wanted to explore it so bad but we knew the right thing to do.

So we went through the bright white, beautiful forest back to our car. After trekking back through there we started the trip back. Even though we were disappointed there was no signal, Aria always made the best of every situation. Her smile was just so contagious singing her heart out while I drove home. About 10 minutes away I called both our parents asking if I could spend the night at her house. We both had huge smiles when they said yes. We had to stop at my house to grab some clothes and snacks for the night.

I just threw some clothes, some snacks and my pillow in a bag and rushed back to the car where Aria was ecstatic. I could tell she really wanted me to stay over. When we got to her house we ran up to her room and blasted more of our favourite songs for fun. Later that night we thought about what would've happened if we chose to go in the cave. What if we weren't having a sleepover or what if no one knew where we were. No one will ever know.

Kiwi Anthems - Social studies

We had to search up a New Zealand artist and choose one of there songs. We had to explain what the song is about and how it relates to New Zealand.

The song I chose is: Aotearoa - Stan Walker

\No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

I am the mountain, you are the sea flowing toward me
You are the river that runs through me, I am her, she is me
Created from dust and sand, born to lead this land

Where we come from we were made to be strong
Our legacy will carry on
And if a piece of home
Resonates in your soul
Your journey will take you
Where you belong

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

The heritage of this land is deep, we are it's legacy
I am her warrior, I fight for thee, we have the victory
Born from blood and tears, I am stronger than fear, yeah...

We strive to move to our destiny
We practice more than what we preach
And if a piece of home resonates in your soul
Your journey will take you where you belong

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

E Ihowa atua
O ngā iwi mātou rā
Āta whakarongona
Me aroha noa
Kia hua ko te pai
Kia tau tō atawhai
Manaakitia mai
Aotearoa!

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

No matter if you're near or far
We come from the land of God
No matter where you belong
We'll fight for your freedom

This song is about being proud to live in New Zealand and what it means to be a New Zealander/kiwi. Stan Walker also said this song is about peace, whatever language and whatever part of New Zealand/the world you were born you are at home in New Zealand/Aotearoa.

Who is Bob Geldof & Midge Ure - Social studies

In social studies we had to research and write a paragragh on Bob Galdof and Midge Ure on who they are and why they started Live aid.

Bob Galdof: He was one of the Live aid main people, he was born 1951 in Ireland and he went ot a catholic school. In 1978 his band made a hit song called ´rat trap´ and ´I dont like mondays´. He teamed up with Midge Ure to make this concert called Live aid, they also made a song ot go along with a concert called ´Do they know its christmas time´. He used all the earnings from the concert to raise money for the families in africa who didnt have food.

Midge Ure: He was pretty important bin the few bands he was in, he was nrmally the gutairist/vocalist of the group. After his time in the bands was over he was a solo artist for a little bit, until him and Bob Galdof decided to make the song called ´do they know its christmas time´ and they preformed it at the concert they both put together. All the earningsfrom the concert werent for the artist, they were all for the families in africa woh didnt have any food.

Making salts - Science

 Title: Making salts

Aim: To produce copper sulphate salt by reacting copper oxide with an acid.

Equipment: Copper oxide powder, dilute, sulfuric acid, cylinder, beakers, heating pad/Bunsen burner, funnel, filter paper, heating pad, stiring rod

Method:

1. Add 20ml of sulfuric acid to a 100ml beaker. Heat the acid until it reaches 70 degrees then turn whatever heater off.

2. Once heated, add a pea size portion of copper oxide to the beaker and stir for 30 seconds.

3. Repeat step 2 until no more will dissolve and the beaker cools.

4. Fold a piece of filter paper into a funnel and get the other beaker and funnel the liquid into the 2nd beaker.

5. Make sure the beaker is cool enough to hold at the top. The contents should still be hot. You may need your teacher to complete this step.

6. Gently swirl the contents of the beaker to mix, and then pour into the filter paper in the funnel. Allow to filter through.

7. Then leave it over a certain amount of time and see what happens.
