Chromatography/ With coloured pens

Today in home chemistry we are learning about Chromatography. The Chromatography we are learning about is putting felt pens on a piece of paper then putting the end of the paper in water and putting skittles in water and waiting for the result. 

Materials;

1. A piece of chromatography paper

2. A pencil and ruler 

3. A cup of water

4. Felt water based pens, we did red, black and green

5.  A Chromebook or I pad to get photos

6. A Chromebook or i pad to do a blog post about it

Process:

Step 1: We got the chromatography paper and we write lines on each end, one end was 1 cm and the other end was 2 cm

Step 2: We put 3 dots with 3 colours on the line

Step 3: After that we put the paper in the water and let it sit

Step 4: We got our Chromebooks out to take some photos

Step 5: We got some photos on our camera

Step 6: We had to start doing a blog post about what we did

Findings: Write about what happened. At the start it was just wet paper but after a while a few different colours came out of just the 3 colours. I can't remember exactly what the colours were but I knew there was about 6 or 7 on the 1 piece of paper. After that we let it sit and moved on to a different experiment

When We Have a Reliever

Today with our reliever I was finished what the class had to do that was on the board so I asked my Mr White if I could sit with my friends outside and read my book. After I got bored of reading my book I asked if I could go on Mathletics and Mr White said yes. When we have guest in our class I should be quiet when they are talking what I always do when someone new is in our class and someone who has been in our class for a while as well. Also when a guest is in our class when they ask you questions about what you are doing you should tell them what you are doing.  Next time I will not ask to sit with my friends when I finished my work. Also I won't ask to go outside with my friends.

CARR values group

Last week we got in groups and made a skit, dance, rap or video to show the class. At the start of last week my teacher made the yr 8 girls and boys went in two lines. Also the same for the yr 7s. After we got in our lines our teacher got the first yr 7 boys and girls in the lines got in the same group. The same for the yr 8s. So the people in my group were Dannielle yr 7, Tai, Tj, Clayton, and Danielle yr 8(me). When we got in our group we got a big piece of paper to write ideas on and what we were going to do. We came up with thinking of a skit we could film. The roles were Clayton was the caemra man, Tj and Tai were the Nerds and me and Dannielle we the bully's. It was so hard not to laugh but somehow we did it with only a tiny bit of laughing for like a second but that's better than the first time where we were laughing most of the time.

The next day we practiced and shot it for the first time but that wasn't the one we were going to show the class. We had 10 minutes or something like that to practice filming. So the next time we worked on our project it was a different day and that was the day we finished. So the class had a 30 minutes to finish filming and show our teacher. Since we knew what we were doing we just filmed it again once or twice because of us laughing. After we finished we showed the teacher and she said just upload it to emails and send it to her. Right after we did that we were done and just doing our other work we had to do

Home Chemestry Week 2

Last week my class and Miss Tozers class were doing home chemistry. We do home chemistry and drama at different times and days. Today day for home chemistry, we had to find the chemical name for different items and if you didn't have a device  you budded up in a pair or a group of 3. I didn't have a device neither did Danni so we budded up with Reisha. So our group was Reisha, Danni and I.

What we had to figure out in science this week is.....

The process / what we had to do:

So the first chemical name from our list was salt . The chemical name for salt is Sodium Chloride, the next thing was surf we couldn't find anything different to something else on our list so we put laundry detergent. After that was white vinegar the chemical name for that was Acetic Acid, the next thing was baking soda and the chemical name for that is Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate and that's the same as baking powder which is after baking soda.

Next was cleaner and the chemical name is  Muriatic Acid. The thing that had the same thing as surf was detergent and the chemical name is Carboxyic Acids. Next was lemonade but there was no chemical name so we did the biggest ingredient which is Glucose H20. After was sugar and the chemical name is Glucose, the last thing was citric acid and the chemical name is Anhydrous.

Science road show

Today I went to the science roadshow with my class (7Tz) and 7Al. We had to go to where our science rooms are and sit in the middle of the mat. First we met presenters Shane and Anna. The first thing they taught us about temperature of different things, the first thing we did about temperature was put a piece of metal in a container then they set it on fire. Then they just talked about what was the coldest degress Celsius.

After the temperature talk we experimented with all the cool things we could.

After we had one more talk and Shane got 3 volunteers . All of then were not in our class they were all in the other. One was seeing hoe much oxygen he had,  play thing and how tall we he might be when hes older.

I think it was pretty fun but I was on crutches so I couldn't do some of it.

Why I moved from outdoor education to discovery

This term we are working on passion projects. Passion projects are something you choose to do then you do stuff involving it. I chose outdoor education and I was really enjoying it, on Mondays after morning tea we'd learn about where we were going then all day on Thursdays we'd go and do the activity. It was really fun. But after the second trip in the weekend I nearly broke my ankle so I could not go on any more trips.

So I could not do outdoor education without probably breaking my ankle so I had to change. I was pretty sad because I made some friends in their and I barely see them.

Now I'm doing discovery and the team I joined they were making a chocolate volcano cake.
